A class

What happens in a class

  1. 01

    Step 1: A hello song

We sit in a circle and sing each child's arrival, with the grown-ups joining in.

  2. 02

    Step 2: Move and play

Scarves, shakers and hand drums, and songs with actions to dance to or sit and watch.

  3. 03

    Step 3: A quiet moment

A lullaby or a slow song, with rocking, stretching or a cuddle on a lap.

  4. 04

    Step 4: A goodbye song

We wave goodbye to the room and to each other, and the scarves go back in the basket.

On the rug

Together, at the child's pace

Grown-ups sit beside their children and sing along. Nobody has to know the songs, and nobody is watched. A child who wants to climb on a lap for the whole class is welcome to, and so is one who wants to dance across the room.

At home

What to have at home

You don't need anything to start.

  • Your voice

The songs from class travel home when you sing them at breakfast, in the car and on the walk home, as often as you like.

  • A shaker from the kitchen

A sealed jar of rice or a pair of wooden spoons will do for a shaker or a drum until you want something more.

  • Ask before you buy

If a class makes you want a small drum or a set of bells for home, ask your teacher which would suit your child's age.

Try a class

Come to a class that suits your child's age, and sit on the rug with them.
